CATCH
The CATCH committee works on projects geared towards bridging gaps between pediatric patients, their healthcare teams, and social and non-medical resources. They are guided by the principle that met social needs are quintessential components of good health and mental well being. This team of medical students and residents reach out to families of pediatric patients in Pittsburgh who are lost to follow-up with medical care and reconnect them to well child visits and local social services. Volunteering with CATCH is open to anyone at the medical school.

Medical Education
The Medical Education committee (MedEd) leads curricular activities for the MS1 class which highlight different neighborhoods and communities in the Pittsburgh area. These immersive activities provide space for conversation between Pitt Med and community members, and they give students the chance to reflect on social and structural forces that contribute to health outcomes in different contexts. This year, MedEd led the MS1 Neighborhood Walk activity in six Pittsburgh neighborhoods, and will host the upcoming Refugee and Immigrant Health Event in October.

Advocacy Committee
The Advocacy committee strives to inform medical professionals at all levels about current topics in health justice and to empower individuals to advocate and engage on behalf of these issues. Committee members have led workshops in writing advocacy letters, and they will be publishing newsletters throughout the year that highlight different topics and feature op-eds, current events, prominent research, and local activism efforts. These newsletters and additional information about the Social Medicine Fellows Program at Pitt will be available on this website.
